This Week: Clinton Foundation Updates for June 25, 2018

Clinton Foundation CEO Kevin Thurm provides updates on the work of the Foundation’s programs.

What to expect the week of June 25, 2018:

  • This week, we are proud to welcome the newest member of the Clinton Foundation Board, Bob Harrison. Bob previously served as the CEO of the Clinton Global Initiative from 2007 to 2016, and as executive director of the Alliance for a Healthier Generation from 2005 to 2007. Currently, Bob serves as chairman of the Board of Trustees of Cornell University. Learn more about him here.
  • The Clinton Climate Initiative’s Siana Teelucksingh and Stephen Mushegan will travel to St. Vincent and the Grenadines to begin a study exploring opportunities for battery storage for renewable energy in the island’s electric grid. As St. Vincent transitions to more renewable energy sources such as solar and geothermal, battery storage could be vital in storing energy for times of high electricity demand to avoid the use of fossil fuel generators.

Highlights from the week of June 18, 2018:

  • Too Small to Fail officially launched a new “Talking is Teaching: Talk, Read, Sing” community campaign in New Orleans in partnership with Children’s Hospital New Orleans — its 14th overall. The mayor of New Orleans, LaToya Cantrell, made remarks on the launch before Chelsea Clinton moderated a panel with partners and local stakeholders including Too Small to Fail’s CEO, Patti Miller. You can see a photo album and read more from the Times Picayune, New Orleans City Business, and coverage from the ABC affiliate.
  • Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) opened applications for the 2018 Honor Roll, which recognizes extraordinary alumni who have made a significant impact through their CGI U Commitments to Action and careers. You can find the application here and you can also read and share a blog post on the CGI U Medium:
  • Healthier Generation launched #SummerSwap, a campaign to inspire parents and families to make small but meaningful changes to their habits this season. From simple recipes perfect for a picnic or Fourth of July barbeque to colorful #SummerSwap ideas, Healthier Generation has all the info you need to live your healthiest summer yet. Additionally, now through Saturday, June 30, you can test your nutrition knowledge with the quiz, “Can you Identify the Healthier #SummerSwap?” Participants who complete the quiz and enter their email address will be automatically entered to win a $50 Target GiftCard™ to support a healthy summer.
  • James Jenkin, CEO of the Clinton-Giustra Enterprise Partnership (CGEP), presented at the Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE) Investing Orientation Training, which provides participants an overview of small and growing businesses with a focus on how to make impact investments in emerging market enterprises. James explained CGEP’s model and facilitated a case study based on CGEP’s agribusiness, Acceso El Salvador.
  • Too Small to Fail and its partners held a Free Laundry and Literacy Day at Laundry Café in Philadelphia. Families were able to spend the day talking, reading, and singing together at the laundromat thanks to Too Small’s partners at the Coin Laundry Association (CLA), LaundryCares Foundation, Read by 4th, Fab Youth Philly, Encore.org, and Teaching Beyond the Square. You can see and share a tweet from Too Small to Fail highlighting this event below.
  • The Clinton Presidential Center, in partnership with the Central Arkansas Library System and the Arkansas Governor’s School, welcomed more than 450 rising seniors who are members of this year’s Governor’s School class. The students participated in a workshop led by Epiphany Morrow, a hip-hop creative, ambassador, and community builder. The workshop was titled “Finding your voice,” a topic that was inspired by the current temporary exhibit, “Louder than Words: Rock, Power and Politics.” Founded by then-Governor Bill Clinton in 1979, the Arkansas Governor’s School is a six-week summer residential program for gifted and talented students who are rising high school seniors.
