How Laundry Time Can Boost Early Language and Brain Development
The average laundromat visit takes two to two-and-a-half hours. What if this time spent doing laundry could also be invested in early childhood development? It can be! Research shows that talking, reading, and singing to young children can build their vocabularies and help lay a strong foundation for lifelong learning. And everyday moments in everyday places can become meaningful opportunities to do just that. That’s why Too Small to Fail — in partnership with the Coin Laundry Association, the Laundry Project, Jumpstart, First 5 Alameda County, University of Arkansas, and Encore.org — launched “Wash Time is Talk Time,” an innovative CGI Commitment to Action that will equip 5,000 laundromats in underserved communities with resources for families to engage in language-rich activities.
